Slovakian manufacturer Praga is defying the miserable current European economic climate with the launch of its track-focused R1.

Similar in concept to the Radical sports car from the UK, the Praga R1 weighs in at just 592kg thanks to its carbon fibre and kevlar construction.

Motive force is provided by a a 154kW 2.0 litre engine from the European Formula Renault open-wheeler series (also related to the road-going Renault Clio Sport 2.0), and sent to the rear wheels through a Hewland six-speed sequential gearbox.

A resulting 260kW/tonne power-to-weight ratio puts the R1 in the same league (acceleration-wise) as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar.

The R1 adds to Praga’s existing line-up of Attack R4 and R4S GT racers, all manufactured at its Orechová Potôň facility - conveniently located adjacent to the Autodrom Slovakia race circuit.
