Good news for fans of hot European mid-sizers with the updated Skoda Octavia RS debuting in the Czech Republic.

This will be the most powerful Octavia RS to-date, employing the Volkswagen Group’s 169kW/350Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel which is unchanged from the current generation with 135kW/380Nm.

As we know from the regular Skoda Octavia models, external changes for the update centre on a new front-end. For the RS, that translates into a new bumper, larger grille and air intakes as well as sharp new headlights - a four LED arrangement with Adaptive Front Lighting.

The rear-end of both the sedan and wagon versions of the Skoda Octavia RS are adorned with spoilers and there are new C-shaped rear lights.

Inside, the RS adds sports seats in leather/fabric, with Alcantara versions on the options list, a perforated leather wrapped steering wheel, alloy pedals and ambient lighting. Range-topping models in Europe run the Columbus navigation system with a 9.2-inch colour screen as well as a wifi hotspot.

Sports suspension sits 15mm lower than standard and the rear track is 30mm wider. The standard wheels are 17-inch alloys but there are also optional 18-inch and 19-inch alternatives.

Technology includes ESC with electronic cross barrier, XDS+ electronic locking differential, and Dynamic Chassis Control.

The updated Skoda Octavia RS arrives in Australia next year but local specifications and pricing have not been finalised.
