Skoda has handed down new preview images for a second bodystyle in the coming Rapid range - but it may be 'too little too late' for the teaser train.
The new images, revealing the tailgate of a new five-door model, are likely hinting at the Rapid 'Spaceback' that surfaced online in early June.
Published on Czech enthusiast site AutoForum, the earlier images are believed to have appeared prematurely on Skoda's own website before being quickly pulled by the carmaker. (Not quick enough... Ed.)
Taking a tip from its larger Octavia Combi stablemate, the Rapid Spaceback (or Combi) will land partway between a full wagon and a five-door hatch, offering a more spacious rear cargo space.
Technical details for the new model have not been released, although we can likely expect the five-door Rapid to feature the same engine range offered with the liftback sedan model.
The Skoda Rapid first appeared locally at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney last year and is set to join Skoda’s local line-up soon.
Australian Skoda Rapid customers will have the choice of either a 77kW 1.2 litre TSI petrol engine or a 90kW 1.4 TSI petrol engine.
No diesel engine will be offered initially, but buyers will have the choice of either manual or DSG twin-clutch automatic transmissions.
The Rapid wagon is expected to make its global debut this week.
