Utilising technologies developed by parent company Volkswagen, the E-Line is a concept no longer, with production of a ten-car test fleet commencing later this year.
“Emission-free mobility is one of our key goals for the future, and my opinion is that electric vehicles are the right answer o the increasingly stringent emission limits," Skoda’s Dr. Eckhard Scholz said.
The E-Line test cars will add to the Volkswagen Group's data collecting exercise, with a small fleet of electrified Golf Blue-e-motion cars already cruising the streets of Europe.
Power for the Octavia E-Line, one of the larger vehicles to feature an electric drivetrain, is provided by an electric motor that produces 60kW and 270Nm of torque.
A short-use 'overboost' function is also featured, boosting power to 85kW.
Energy for the electric Octavia's motor is provided by a 26.5kWh lithium ion battery park stored beneath the middle and rear floor sections.
The Octavia Green E Line lists a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 12 seconds, with a top speed of 135km/h.
Skoda promises a driving range of around 140km, giving city-dwellers a few days between recharges.
