Skoda MissionL Concept Previews Upcoming New Liftback Sedan

This is the MissionL "Design Study", and you can look forward to seeing it at the forefront of Skoda's new model offensive over the coming years.

It won't be a long wait, either. The MissionL will make its production debut in India later this year, with a global debut to follow. After that, Skoda plans to debut a new car every six months over the next few years.

“This new compact model, along with other new products to follow, will enable us to accomplish our goal of increasing global annual sales to 1.5 million vehicles by 2018," Skoda Board Chairman Winfried Vahland said.

Cooked up with a dash of Jetta and a smidge of A4, the MissionL offers a simple but sharp flavour that Skoda hopes will whet the appetites of buyers around the world.

“We have taken a very pure approach to this design study; we have structured the surfaces simply, but impressively,” Skoda's Eckhard Scholz said.

“The car has a strong, sporty look which conveys a beautiful simplicity and a youthful and contemporary appearance. Many people look for clean, minimalistic lines, and the MissionL concept offers all that."

Despite its sedan profile, the MissionL is a five-door offering with Skoda's familiar liftback opening at the rear. As a compact car, the production version of the MissionL will slot in below the mid-sized Octavia, where it will tackle the likes of the new Ford Focus.

Technical details for the MissionL have not been revealed, although it is likely that the as-yet unnamed production car ("Lauretta" is rumoured) will share its powertrains and platforms with the Volkswagen Jetta.
