Available from September with Volkswagen's 77kW 1.2 litre 77TSI engine, the Fabia will start at $18,990 for the basic Fabia Hatchback.
Also available from launch will be the special Fabia Monteo Carlo 77TSI, priced from $21,990 and bringing a number of sportier add-ons to the small Skoda.
Both variants are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, with fuel consumption figures listed at 5.5 l/100km. A seven-speed DSG automatic will be available later in the year.
Standard safety features include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control with ABS, ASR, EBD and Brake Assist. Rear storage space is listed at 315 litres.
Fabia Monte Carlo
The Fabia Monteo Carlo offers a sportier option for Fabia buyers, adding 16-inch lightweight alloy wheels, smoked headlights, a black radiator grille, black roof, black wing mirror covers and a piano-black body trim.
Inside, the Monteo Carlo features a choice of black or black and red sports seats with extra side support.
There's also black roof lining, a perforated leather steering wheel with red contrast stitching and a leather handbrake and gearstick gaiter with red stitching.
In 2012, the performance-focused Fabia RS will join the range, drawing power from the same 132kW/175Nm 1.4 litre turbo and supercharged petrol engine driving the popular Volkswagen Polo GTI.
Paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission, the Fabia RS rockets to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds.
Unique features include 17-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers and twin exhaust tips. Inside, the Fabia RS features height-adjustable sports seats along with a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel and paddle shifters for the DSG's manual mode.
