Skoda is introducing a high-performance RS variant to its Octavia range, the Octavia RS 245. Available in both wagon and sedan body styles, the RS 245 is a permanent addition to the lineup, unlike last year’s RS 230 which was only available in limited numbers.
The RS 245 (245 designating its horsepower output) is powered by Volkswagen Group’s EA888 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that also makes an appearance in the Volkswagen Golf GTI. In the Octavia RS 245, the engine is good for 180kW of power and 370Nm of torque.
The front-wheel drive RS 245 promises the most performance oriented drive in the range with the addition of an electronic limited-slip differential. Both sedan and wagon models can also be mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
With an electronic LSD helping get power to the ground efficiently, Skoda is claiming a 0-100km/h of 6.6secs and 6.7secs for the sedan and wagon respectively.
Fuel consumption is yet to be revealed, but expect a rating only slightly higher than last year’s RS 230 figure of 6.4L/100km combined.
In addition to its drivetrain, the RS 245 receives a number of trim and equipment upgrades inside and out, including 19-inch black alloys wheels, black exhaust tips, leather and Alcantara trim with RS 245 instrument cluster, electric front seats and automatic folding mirrors.
The RS 245 is available in four different colours, Corrida Red, Steel Grey, metallic Moon White and pearl effect Black Magic.
Buyers will be able to add further enhancements with the Tech Pack ($2300) that includes parking assist, adjustable chassis control (dampening and steering adjustment), 10-speaker Canton sound system and keyless entry. The Luxury Pack ($1,500) adds lane assist, side assist with blind spot monitoring and heated front and rear seats.
Skoda Australia director, Michael Irmer, says the value and performance of Octavia’s newest member will appeal to Australians: “Skoda has always stood for getting more car for your money, which is easily observed in the new Octavia range.”
“With this new, high performance Octavia RS 245, Australian fans will not just see ‘more car’, they’re going to feel it too,” he said.
The Octavia RS 245 will be available in dealerships from this month, with the sedan priced from $43,390 and the wagon from $44,890. The Octavia RS 245 also includes Skoda’s five-year unlimited kilometre warranty, roadside assistance and capped price servicing.
