Australian F1 star Daniel Ricciardo may have sampled podium champagne from his driving boots for the last time.

The “shoey” is certainly nothing new, with sports stars in other arenas and even the odd lead singer on stage having drank from their footwear at times when a clean glass and a coaster were seemingly unavailable.

But the practice has reached a new climax at the hands of the Red Bull driver, who has celebrated many-a-podium with a hard-earned swig of shoe juice.

Ricciardo has even persuaded the likes of fellow Aussie Mark Webber and British actor Sir Patrick Stewart to participate in the post-race activity, but now Ricciardo reportedly feels it may be time to hang up the shoey shoes.

Surprisingly, for fans, the Aussie’s last two podium appearances were supposed to be shoey-free.
