Toyota continues to tease fans with its upcoming rear-wheel-drive entry-level sports car, the FT-86. It has long been known that the car will wear a Scion badge when it debuts in the US, and at next week's New York Auto Show, that's just what we'll see.

While the production version of the new car is still some time away, April 20 will see one of the three FT-86 concepts - rumoured to be called FR-S in the US market - with the youth-oriented Scion name.

The news follows last month's unveiling of the FT-86 II Concept, which follows the original FT-86 and the FT-86 G Sports track-inspired concepts.

Next week's unveiling will likely be based on the more recent FT-86 II, which Toyota described at the Geneva Motor Show as a 'pre-production' concept.

In Australia, the sports car will wear the more-familiar Toyota badge, although whether it will be named the FT-86 or the FR-S - or something else all together - remains to be seen.
