The coming new Rolls-Royce SUV has been revealed. Sort of.
And, while you’d hardly need to be told, Rolls-Royce stresses that while this mule might hint at the size of the coming new SUV model, “it features no design aspects of the eventual high-sided, all-terrain motor car announced earlier this year”.
Looking like an ultra-luxury version of Subaru’s Outback sedan body, this big mule rolls on a high-riding suspension package, matched to a tall rear wing that may be simulating the drag and aero profiles of an SUV.
Rolls-Royce says the mule’s suspension package is the first iteration of an all-new arrangement destined for the new SUV, promising an all-wheel-drive experience that will deliver its “hallmark magic-carpet ride” in on- and off-road driving.
The company claims that its mules will see an equal amount of time spent on-road and off-road.
"The first series of tests will focus on Project Cullinan’s on-road behaviour from suspension throw to high-bodied stability, and will test the new suspension across all types of international road surface specification at test facilities, as well as on public roads," the company said in a statement today.
We can likely expect to see the first final-body prototypes roll out later this year, although a heavy layer of camouflage should keep pundits from getting an early look at the SUV’s finer details.
