Rolls-Royce is reportedly considering adding a luxury SUV to its line-up, in response to Bentley’s decision to go down the same path with the EXP 9 F SUV concept.

As the luxurious British marque is owned by the BMW Group, it would have obvious platform choices in the BMW X5 and X6 upon which to build a luxury SUV.

Speaking with with Bloomberg at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes said that he considers the SUV market to be "stable", staying strong through the global financial crisis.

“We are intensively thinking about entering the SUV segment,” Mr Mueller-Oetvoes said.

“The segment is very interesting. It has been incredibly stable during the crisis, and I think a luxury niche will develop.”

While the luxury carmaker currently only offers the Phantom and the Ghost in Australia, the local boom in SUV sales would make Australia a worthwhile market for a future Rolls-Royce SUV.

Infiniti Considering S-Class Rival: Report

Infiniti has reportedly begun investigating the potential for a rival to the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. And, given the Renault/Nissan/Daimler partnership, it could even use Merc's platform.

Speaking with Auto Express, Infiniti President Johan de Nysschen apparently said he would like to see the carmaker develop its 2009 Essence concept into a new flagship model.

"An Infiniti halo car is important for our future,” Mr de Nysschen said. “It should have a strong emotional character and is likely to be a powerful and exciting coupe."

Infiniti won’t be rushing an S-Class rival into production, however, with de Nysschen saying that his aim for such a model would be “the end of the decade”.

In the meantime, Infiniti could build a sedan version of the Essence first and then hand it over to its new specialist performance tuning arm.
