We weren’t expecting it, but boy does this new ‘Mazda2 Coupe’ rendering look the part.
Crafted by independent artist Theo Chin, the compact two-door has been imagined as something of a successor to the MX-3 coupe (known here as the Eunos/Mazda 30X) of the 90s.
Mazda is unlikely to introduce such a model, but with the original MX-3 and the new Mazda2 hatch both built on light front-wheel-drive platforms, delivering a sporty little coupe wouldn’t be entirely outside the bounds of possibility.
The new 2 hatch and sedan’s flowing lines lend themselves well to a coupe design, while Mazda’s now familiar new long bonnet and large grille design are well suited to the shape.
But, as with the rumoured Mazda6 coupe, we shouldn’t hold our breath for Mazda to unleash a new two-door special anytime soon. (Let alone the RX-7 coupe that fans have been holding out for…)
