Kia signalled its intent to take on Volkswagen's Golt GTI when it revealed the new Pro_Cee'd GT earlier this year, but there's one segment the Korean dynamo has ignored.

Yes, the Pro_Cee'd GT will be offered in five- and three-door form, but for now, there's no convertible version on the cards.

Volkswagen has embraced the topless-turbo market with the Golf GTI Cabrio, but few others in the segment have. There's no convertible Focus ST, no droptop WRX, not even an RS version of the Megane CC

For its part, Kia has yet to confirm plans for a convertible of any sort, but if one were to come - and design boss Peter Schreyer is known to want one - then the Pro_Cee'd GT wouldn't be a bad starting point.

This rendering, produced by fansite Kia-World, offers a glimpse of what a topless GT could look like. There's little to be surprised about in its styling, of course, but it could be just the ticket for enhancing Kia's lifestyle focus.

For now, local buyers can look forward to the Pro_Cee'd GT's Australian launch sometime next year.

"This is a whole new level of performance for Kia Australia and the fact that it is wrapped in a sensational package of style and safety is icing on the cake," Kia Australia COO Tony Barlow said in March when announcing the car's coming debut.

Power for the Pro_Cee'd GT is provided by a 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 150kW and 265Nm of torque.

Matched to a six-speed manual transmission only, the turbo four sends power to the front wheels.
