A recently spied small sedan believed to be a new BMW player has surfaced already as a convincing new rendering.
Caught testing on public roads this month, the new sedan has so far been seen only in a heavy layer of disguising camouflage.
There’s little doubt however as to the identity of the manufacturer: the prototype’s profile is clearly that of a BMW model, while support vehicles spied by our photographers also hint at a Bavarian background.
The final identity of the new small BMW remains a mystery, although this new rendering by independent artist ‘X-Tomi’ gives the sedan a 2 Series face.
Just what we’ll see at the front end is unknown, and other recent spy photos also confirm that the regular 1 Series will also get a facelift in the coming year.
Perhaps the biggest question is what we’ll find under the skin.
Will the new sedan utilise the same rear-wheel-drive platform that underpins the current 1 Series hatch and two-door 2 Series models, or will it debut with the front-wheel-drive layout used by the five-door 2 Series Active Tourer?
We’ll have to wait and see, although a rear-wheel-drive layout could give the new sedan a unique selling point against the front- and all-wheel-drive options of the Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes-Benz CLA.
