Renault's Zoe electric vehicle is moving closer to its production debut, and details of its production specifications are beginning to surface.

When it appeared in concept form at last year's Paris Auto Show, Renault claimed the electrified Zoe would deliver a driving range of around 160km - putting it on par with the Nissan Leaf - a product of the same Renault-Nissan EV program.

According to industry paper Automotive News Europe however, the production Zoe will do even better when it arrives late next year. And, while Renault remains tight-lipped on an official level, it is believed that the Zoe will offer better than 200km from one charge.

The report adds that the electric version of Renault's Fluence sedan is expected to offer a range of around 185km, while its electric Kangoo van will achieve around 170km.

Power for the Zoe concept is provided by an electric motor producing 60kW and 222Nm of torque. Like the Nissan Leaf, the Zoe's motor draws its energy from a lithium-ion battery park, reaching full charge in six to eight hours through a specialised supply unit.

If the Zoe's owner doesn't have six hours to spare, the battery pack will still offer a 55km range off a mere 10 minute recharge.

The diminutive Zoe will be targeted at mainstream buyers, marketed as a greener alternative to Renault's own petrol-powered Clio - and likely at a premium.
