Renault and Fiat have today confirmed a new manufacturing partnership that will see the French carmaker produce a new light van for its Italian counterpart.

Scheduled to debut in early 2016, the new commercial van will be built in France and will ride on one of Renault’s existing platforms.

Styling for the new model will be Fiat’s own work, however we can likely expect design changes to focus on the front end.

Renault recently unveiled its new Trafic van, and the same model will get a new face for launch as the Opel Vivaro.

Details on the new Fiat-badged model are still to come, however, and it remains unclear which Renault van will provide the base: light Kangoo, mid-sized Trafic or large Master.

Fiat’s current ‘Professional’ line includes the small Doblo, the midsized Scudo and the large Ducato. In Europe there is also the even smaller Fiorino van and the Strada utility.
