News last month that French carmaker Renault will supply Fiat with a new van brought an obvious question: which of Fiat’s current models will this new Franco-Italian model replace?

Neither of the European powers has offered any details, but a new report with industry paper Automotive News suggests the mystery machine will be a new Scudo, based on Renault’s recently revealed Trafic van.

The report claims that both new vans will be built at Renault’s overhauled Sandouville plant in France, which also builds the Trafic-based Opel Vivaro. Nissan’s next NV300 will also share that platform.

French production of the Scudo will be nothing new, however, with the current model already built by PSA Peugeot Citroen alongside the largely identical Peugeot Expert, Citroen Jumpy and Toyota Proace.
