The first images of Renault Samsung's SM7 Concept have been released today, offering a glimpse at what lies ahead for the Franco-Korean partnership.

The SM7 will replace the Nissan Maxima/Teana-based SM5 in the Korean market - the latest step in the company's switch from Nissan to Renault platforms.

How much of the SM7 Concept's sports-focused styling will carry over into the production model next year remains to be seen, although a performance variant could see the concept hit showrooms almost untouched.

Engine details haven't been revealed, although Renault Samsung has confirmed that the SM7 will be built on a stretched version of the platform underpinning the smaller SM5 - which is expected to replace the Laguna in Australia as the Renault Latitude.

No plans have been confirmed for a launch in markets outside of Asia, but with the SM5 scheduled for a global launch in the coming year, the SM7 could eventually make its way to European and Australian roads.
