In comes the new Megane RS 275 Cup Premium - replacing the outgoing 265 Cup Premium and bringing a longer list of standard equipment.
As the name suggests, the 275 Premium bumps horsepower from the 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from 265 to 275 HP (201kW, and 360Nm), and the new arrival scores a “raspy” (says Renault) lightweight Akrapovic exhaust system.
In keeping with true hot hatch tradition, a six-speed manual is the only transmission on offer.
Enthusiastic drivers will be pleased to find red Brembo front brake callipers, 19-inch alloy wheels and a mechanical limited-slip differential. Buyers can choose from five paint finishes on the RS 275 Cup Premium: Glacier White, Diamond Black, Titanium Grey, Pearl White and Liquid Yellow.
Inside, the Premium gets Recaro front bucket seats wrapped in Alcantara and leather, while the steering wheel, gear stick and park-brake handle also get the Alcantara treatment.
The gear knob is Zamac alloy, and the interior also gets a seven-inch touchscreen with reversing camera, dual-zone climate control and satellite navigation.
“The Megane RS 265 and 275 models are already automotive icons of the Australian street, having won over more buyers here than in almost every other country in the Renault world,” Renault Australia Managing Director, Justin Hocevar, said.
“Australia has been comfortably inside the top three destinations for the Megane RS since its arrival here. From a personal perspective, there has been a Megane RS in my driveway ever since I joined the company; such is the magnetic appeal of this car to driving enthusiasts.”
To launch its new RS model, Renault has announced a zero percent comparison finance rate for Renault Sport purchases from September 1.
The 265 Cup will remain in the line-up, meaning customers can now choose between the $43,990 265 Cup or the new $52,990 275 Cup Premium - plus on-road costs.
Two limited edition Megane RS models are also in the mix, being the Trophy and extra-hot Trophy-R, with the latter setting a lap record for front-wheel-drive production cars at Melbourne’s Albert Park circuit this year.
The 2015 Renault Megane RS 275 Cup Premium in on sale now, backed by a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty, five years roadside assistance and a capped-price servicing plan.
