Renault's assault on the booming Chinese automotive market is to be spearheaded by the large Talisman sedan, revealed at the Beijing Auto Show this week.

If the Talisman looks familiar, it's with good reason: a version of the sedan is also sold in South Korea as the Renault Samsung SM7.

The Talisman is expected to be offered in China with two familiar V6 engines sourced from Nissan: a 134kW 2.5 litre and a 185kW 3.5 litre, both of them mated to a CVT auto.

“The launch of Renault’s flagship Talisman in China underlines the importance Renault attaches to the Chinese market and our confidence in growth here,” Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn said.

The large sedan will hit Chinese showrooms in June, with Renault distribution scheduled to grow from 80 dealerships in 2011, to 170 by 2014.

With 24,100 units sold in 2011, Renault’s sales in China have increased more than 60 percent, compared to 2010.

The Koleos SUV has proved successful, with China now the car’s number-one market. The Chinese-market Renault range grew 2011 with the introduction of Scenic, Laguna, Latitude, Fluence and Mégane CC.

Over the next few years, Renault also plans to establish an industrial base in China.
