Another day, another free racing game for the Apple iPad and iPhone.

Not many give you the chance to chuck a hot hatch around Melbourne's Albert Park F1 circuit however, and that's what Renault's new R.S. Challenge app offers.

Available for free in Apple's iTunes App Store, the new iPad game puts you behind the wheel of the Megane R.S. 250

Starting the game, players can choose from one of three paint schemes: the 'regular' yellow, and two F1-inspired options in the Australian Grand Prix Limited Edition and Red Bull Race Off cars.

As with most racing apps on the popular tablet, the game offers the use of the iPad's inbuilt accelerometers to handle steering.

The real-world R.S. 250 is available with a manual transmission only, but to make life a little easier for the thick-of-thumb, the iPad game keeps it simple with on-screen acceleration and braking pedals. Drilled aluminium sports pedals, of course.

Other features include a car showroom with 360-degree views, a ghost lap option, engine sounds recorded from the real-world Megane R.S. 250, a live leaderboard for other players in Australia, and replay and rewind controls for redoing that failed attempt at turn 4.
