Renault has revealed it will introduce its first-ever ‘C-segment’ or ‘small’ SUV next month, ahead of a Geneva Motor Show unveiling in March.

The new model will be known as Kadjar, which is described as a combination of ‘quad’ for ‘go anywhere four-wheel vehicle’ and the French words ‘agile’ and ‘jaillir’, which represent agility and “emerging suddenly from somewhere”.

Marketing lingo aside, Renault adds that the new Kadjar name “fits seamlessly” with the company’s existing crossovers, the Koleos and the new Captur.

Details on the Kadjar are still to be revealed, but, as a small SUV, it will likely slot in between the compact Captur (due here in February) and the next-generation Koleos.

The new Koleos has yet to be revealed, although it is expected that it will grow in size to mirror the relationship between Nissan’s five-seat Qashqai and the five/seven-seat X-Trail.
