Renault has revealed the latest in its line of concepts that hint at the French carmaker's future design strategy, in the form of the Frendzy light commercial vehicle concept.

The Frendzy follows in the footsteps of the DeZir sports concept, the Captur three-door compact SUV and the R-Space people-mover concept.

“Frendzy is the fourth vehicle to illustrate Renault’s new design strategy, a series which started with DeZir. It takes an original and innovative stance on the world of light commercial vehicles - a key part of Renault’s activities," Renault design boss Laurens van den Acker said.

Just as the Captur is expected to make the leap to production in one form or another, it is likely that the Frendzy offers a glimpse at a future Kangoo. The current Kangoo is only three years old, however - so a replacement may be sometime away.

The Frendzy's design offers an odd variety of access points, with the right-hand side showing only a front door and a workvan-like sliding door - including a 37-inch digital display, offering companies a unique way to advertise their business.

On the left, the Frendzy offers doors that hinged at the outer edges, along with proper passenger windows.

At the rear is a split tailgate, with the bottom gate able to lay flat or slide downwards, offering easier access in tight parking spaces. The rear offers up to 2250 litres of storage space.

In the cargo space is a series of magnetic fixings to hold objects in place, along with a stretching fabric roof that can accommodate bulkier objects.

Power for the Frendzy concept is provided by an electric motor producing 40kW of power and 226Nm of torque. Top speed for the concept is listed at 130km/h.

Renault will give the Frendzy its global unveiling at September's Frankfurt Motor Show.
