Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia has recalled a trio of models this week, due to a potential problem with the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) system.

The carmaker has identified a weakness with the front impact sensor wires, which may be susceptible to an electrical short.

Should this occur, the vehicle’s airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners may not operate as intended during a collision, which could pose a hazard to the vehicle occupants.

The affected models include the 2010-2012 Dodge Caliber, the 2010-2014 Jeep Compass, the 2010-2014 Jeep Patriot and the 2010 Chrysler Sebring.

All up, 22,960 vehicles are included in the recall in Australia.

The recall process will involve an inspection of the ORC unit, as repairs will not be required on all vehicles. For those requiring further attention, all works will be carried out free-of-charge to owners.

FCA will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer.
