RANGE ROVER SPORT RS

Land Rover has offered a second new teaser of its hot new Range Rover Sport flagship, just hours after dropping the first hint of its coming.

Rumoured to be known as the Sport RS, the new performance SUV is believed to be the product of a new collaboration with sister company Jaguar.

Like yesterday's short teaser, today's new video offers little in the way of concrete details - although the voiceover does promise a good deal more performance from the new hero.

"We've always had a breadth of capability on- and off-road, but now we've added more performance to the mix. A lot more." the voiceover goes.

That follows yesterday's hints:

“Most of the world’s great performance cars have been honed to perfection here at the Nurburgring… why should ours be any different?” the video’s voiceover teases.

While this is the first move Land Rover has made to confirm plans for a rival to the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Mercedes ML 63 AMG and the BMW X5 M, revealing prototypes have been spied testing in recent months.

Those shots reveal the so-called RS riding lower than other Range Rover Sport models, and a much firmer suspension helps keep body roll at bay.

Aerodynamics are aided by the low chin and deep air dams of the front bumper, and the RS' huge alloy wheels appear to conceal a set of equally massive brake rotors.

With the new Range Rover Sport shedding up to 420kg compared to its predecessor, the R-S should deliver exceptionally sharp handling for a large SUV. Off-roading ability, though, will likely be dramatically reduced.

As for the engine, expect a tuned version of the Sport's 375kW 5.0 litre supercharged V8 to sit under the RS' bonnet.

Jaguar-badged examples like the XKR-S, XFR-S, XJR and the new F-Type R Coupe suggest we could see power in the ‘Rangey’ climb to around 405kW.

That’ll be something.
