The Range Rover Evoque has added to its already impressive cupboard of tinware by taking out ‘Best in Category’ at the Australian International Design Awards (AIDA).

Having already garnered more than a few international accolades, this latest title sits alongside such honours as 2012 World Car Design of the Year.

"The Evoque is very good value considering exceptional fit, finish and features. A bold form that is turning heads", the AIDA judging panel said of Land Rover Australia’s new top-selling model.

Other four-wheeled winners in the ‘Automotive and Transport’ category include the Honda CR-Z, updated Jaguar XFR, Audi Q3, Mazda CX-5, along with the Hyundai i40, Veloster and i30.

The category is open to all products and components in the industry, with the BRP Can-Am Spyder Roadster three-wheeled motorcycle, DAF XF105 prime mover, BRP Sea-Doo GTI personal watercraft and the Intervolt programmable voltage sensing relay also receiving awards.

Presented by industry body Good Design Australia, the AIDAs are Australia’s longest-running design recognition program.

Winners were chosen by a panel of Australian and international design experts, who assessed each entry against a common criteria which considers innovation, form, function, quality, safety and sustainability.

Other Automotive and Transport entries that were not awarded include the Subaru XV, and the Suzuki Swift Sport, and the Kia Rio.

The Rio's dismissal is noteable: while it couldn't pass muster with the AIDA judges, Kia's new light hatch proved handsome enough to take a win in the prestigious Red Dot Design Awards in Germany this year.
