QOROS 3 TOPS EURO NCAP TEST
According to the Euro NCAP test report, the 3 sedan offered good overall protection, boasting an "extremely robust" safety passenger cell.
Incredibly, the Qoros 3 is also the highest-scoring model in Euro NCAP's 2013 testing for Adult Occupant Protection, achieving a score of 95 percent.
The achievement means that the brand-new marque, launched with a focus on European demands, has surpassed the previous 4-Star bests of compatriot carmaker Geely.
The top score also means that if the Qoros brand comes to Australia - and it is believed to be under consideration - it could potentially make the same boast in this market.
In Australia, the Great Wall X240 SUV is the only Chinese model to carry a 4-Star rating, while Geely and Chery have achieved only 3- and 2-Star ratings.
Interestingly - although not unusual under China's complex corporate laws - Chery is a major shareholder in the Qoros brand, along with an Israeli investment firm Israel Corporation.
Among the brand's developers and suppliers are well-known companies like Bosch, Continental, Magna Steyr, Microsoft and TRW.
"The safety of our vehicles was one of our key development goals from the start. It’s a crucial demonstration that our customers are the most important consideration and it also says a great deal about the engineering integrity of the car as a whole," Qoros vice chairman Volker Steinwascher said.
"So, while we expected a very good result in the Euro NCAP test, we are naturally very happy with how the car performed. The Qoros engineering team invested an incredible amount of time and commitment in developing one of the safest vehicles ever assessed by Euro NCAP."
Qoros will next launch new SUV and wagon versions of the 3, revealed in concept form earlier this year.
