French group PSA, parent company of Peugeot and Citroen, has announced it will team up with Chinese automaker Dongfeng to develop a new “electric Common Modular Platform” (e-CMP) that will be used in future all-electric vehicles by Dongfeng, Peugeot, Citroen and DS.

The e-CMP project is just one facet of the PSA-Dongfeng joint venture, with the first cars using the platform expected to roll out in 2019 and slated to be sold globally.

"The future e-CMP platform is a key milestone in our partnership with Dongfeng,” said PSA Chairman Carlos Tavares.

“It will speed up the worldwide development of both of our groups, while helping us to reach the strict carbon objective set for 2020”.

Details of precisely what kind of cars will be built around the e-CMP architecture have yet to be announced, but according to a press release issued by PSA they will comprise a range of cars spread across the light and small - or B and C - segments.
