Proton has shown its new Prevé midsized sedan and Exora people-mover at the Australian International Motor Show

Both cars new for Australia, the Prevé lands here as the cheapest midsize sedan on the market - retailing at $18,990 for the entry level GX manual.

The GX is also available with a CVT automatic transmission, priced at $20,990.

Power is provided by an 1.6 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, with 80kW and 150Nm. Fuel consumption is a claimed 7.2 l/100km for the manual, and 8.0 l/100km for the CVT.

Stability control is offered as standard, along with anti-whiplash front headrests, ABS and reverse parking sensors.

Other standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, iPod compatibility and a trip computer.

By mid-2013, a higher-grade variant will join the Prevé range.

Offered with a 1.6 litre turbo inline four and CVT gearbox, the specced up Prevé promises performance equal to that of 2.0 litre naturally aspirated engines, as well as leather, sat nav, rain sensing wipers, dusk sensing headlamps, cruise control and a push button starter.

Also scheduled to join the Proton line-up in mid-2013 is the Exora people mover.
