Proton has used its Alami Proton Carnival 2015 at the carmaker’s Centre of Excellence Complex to unveil a new pickup concept.

The concept is as-yet unnamed, and any future plans for production are unclear.

It’s fair to say, however, the Malaysian carmaker would do its sales no harm by adding a pickup to the range.

On show at the Carnival was an aggressively-styled and sizable ute which appeared to draw inspiration from the likes of Ford’s F-150 Raptor.

LED lights feature both front and rear, along with tinted windows, a lined tray and off-road tyres.

Proton has used the same platform underpinning its Exora people-mover to build the concept, rather than a ladder frame chassis.

Also unveiled at the Carnival was the 2016 Proton Perdana, but it remains to be seen if Australian customers will ever see it here.

In Australia at present, the Proton range consists of the Exora, the Preve and the Suprima S.

Proton sold 12 Preves last month along with one sale each for the Exora and Suprima S, giving the carmaker a total 0f 14 sales for the month and 326 for the year to date.
