Leading Ford Supercars Championship team, Prodrive, has been forced to quell speculation in Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper about a swap to Mustangs in place of the current Ford Falcons for next year’s Supercars Championship.

The newspaper pointed to Supercars' new ‘Gen2’ regulations which are effective next year and include two-door vehicles…but in the case of a Prodrive Mustang, the 'Telly' put 2 and 2 together and got 5.

Ahead of this weekend’s championship round at Sydney Motorsport Park, Prodrive team boss Tim Edwards said the team will again be racing Falcon FG X machines next year.

Edwards added that it was too late to kick-start a development program for a brand new racer in time for the 2017 season but did admit his team had entertained a brief overview of the Mustang without detailed technical or engineering work at this stage.
