When Porsche revealed its all-new Panamera four-door earlier this month, the company proudly proclaimed that its twin-turbo V8 engine was its own design and not derived from Audi’s existing V8 engine.

That’s because the Panamera’s V8 is slated to replace the V8 engine range in both Audi and Bentley vehicles, as part of the Volkswagen Group’s premium product strategy.

The German sports car maker’s CEO, Oliver Bloom, confirmed the plan with Automotive News Europe.

“Porsche’s new engine plant will also contribute towards synergies within the Volkswagen Group,” Bloom said at the opening ceremony of Porsche’s new V8 engine plant in Stuttgart.

The new facility will be capable of rolling out up to 200 engines a day, which, as well as powering the new Panamera Turbo, will also make their way into the next generation Audi A8, Bentley Continental and Mulsanne, and even the Lamborghini Urus SUV.

In its current Porsche specification, the new engine produces 404kW and 770Nm, however both high- and low-output variants are expected, tailored to individual vehicle applications.
