The first hybrid model of the new Porsche Panamera range has been revealed ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show, which starts in October.

By combining a 243kW/450Nm 2.9 litre twin-turbo petrol V6 with an electric motor rated at 100kW and 400Nm, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid provides a combined 340kW of power and up to 700Nm at maximum-attack, while also wearing an official fuel consumption figure as low a 2.5 l/100km.

The electric system adds a larger 14.1kWh battery compared with its predecessor, allowing the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid to travel on electric power alone for up to 50 kilometres, at speeds of up to 140km/h while the combined powertrains can rocket the large four-door from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

By employing the hybrid operating strategy developed for use in the 918 Spyder, the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid now offers electric assistance from the moment the driver touches the accelerator pedal, whereas previous electric assistance was only available from 80 percent throttle travel and beyond.

A new electric clutch actuator used on the electric motor decoupler also helps reduce system engagement times.

Power from the combined petrol and electric motor is routed via an eight-speed PDK (dual-clutch) automatic, in place of the previous torque converter automatic, to all four wheels.

Charge times for the battery are 5.8 hours from a 10 amp powerpoint, or as little as 3.6 hours from a specialised 32 amp charger.

Porsche has adapted a range of hybrid-specific displays, relayed on the dual 7.0-inch instrument cluster displays mounted either side of the analogue tachometer.

Also included in the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is Porsche’s 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system providing further hybrid system insights, as well as Porsche’s Sport Chrono equipment package.

The 2017 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is available to order now, with pricing starting from $242,600 (plus on-roads) with Australian deliveries expected to begin from the middle of 2017.
