Porsche’s on-again, off-again all-electric midsized offering is apparently switched back to the ‘on’ position, according to reports out of Europe.

The model dubbed globally as “Pajun”, short for ‘Panamera Junior’, is said to be headed to this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

But while the Pajun is expected to be a sedan of some sort in its production clothes, like the Panamera, France’s L’Automobile reports that the first taste we’ll get of the new midsizer will come from a Pajun hatch concept.

Furthermore, the concept at least will feature an all-electric powerplant - perhaps previewing an EV production version. The Pajun concept is also said to be 300mm shorter than the Panamera.

Such a model would give Porsche a direct rival for the Tesla Model S, but the carmaker has previously denied that it is developing an EV sedan.

The Pajun concept is also believed to be rear-wheel-drive with a range similar to that of the existing Model S, although Tesla recently announced an update that can take its luxury EV’s range beyond 550km.

When powered by an internal combustion engine, the Pajun will also serve as a rival to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW’s 5 Series.

While a Pajun concept might be just around the corner, the production version may not appear until 2017, or even 2019.
