Porsche has taken its 911 GT3 RS track weapon and turned up the heat to produce its latest ‘track only’ racer.

Meet the 2016 GT3 R - based on the GT3 RS - which Porsche describes as its “customer sport race car for GT3 series around the world”.

The RS’s aerodynamics have been refined for the R, and Porsche has trimmed some fat (not that there is much…) from the RS to get the weight down to 1220kg.

The German carmaker also claims to have improved the handling, reduced consumption, optimised safety and, surprisingly, reduced the cost of servicing and spare parts.
