Perhaps feeling a little left out since Ferrari decided to make the styling of its LaFerrari hypercar an entirely in-house affair, Italian design house Pininfarina is now looking for buyers for its own ultra-exclusive thoroughbred.

According to Pininfarina's design head Fabio Filippini, a production version of the Sergio Concept could be homologated for road use in Asia, the Middle East and Europe - pending some front-end changes to satisfy pedestrian impact regulations.

Based on the Ferrari 458 Spider, the Sergio will be made in an extremely limited run of between three and six cars.

Customers would need to be extraordinarily wealthy though: with an estimated retail price of over AU$2.1 million, the Sergio would cost over $1.5 million more than what its 458 Spider donor costs here.

And even at that price, you won't get that wind-in-your-hair feeling. Without a windscreen, occupants would be required by law to wear helmets while driving the Sergio on public roads.
