Pininfarina And Ferrari Reveal Sergio Tribute Concept In Geneva

Ferrari has lent its name and expertise to a new concept that pays tribute to one of its greatest partners, design legend Sergio Pininfarina. 

Developed with the studio founded by Battista "Pinin" Farina in 1930, the concept is named in honour of Farina's son, who led the company from 1966 until 2001. Pininfarina passed away in 2012.

Lead designer for Ferrari's legendary F40 supercar, Pininfarina's credits also include contributions to the Ferrari 328, 360 and P4/5, along with a number of Fiat, Peugeot, Lancia, Austin, Bentley and even Cadillac models. 

This latest concept shares its platform and mechanical components with the Ferrari 458 Spider, remaining unchanged in wheelbase and track. 

That's where the similarities end however, and the Sergio is unmistakably Pininfarina in style, untempered by the requirements of a client carmaker. 

The Sergio features an entirely new body on top of the 458 chassis, made completely from carbon-fibre - an approach that saved 10 percent in weight compared to aluminium.
