Peugeot has taken another swing at the compact SUV segment, refining the look of last year's larger SXC showcar into the new Urban Crossover Concept.

Taking styling cues from its concept predecessor, the Urban Crossover also draws on the look of Peugeot's new 4008 SUV, and the upcoming 208 hatch, both due in Australia soon.

Peugeot's new 'Smiling grille' dominates the front end, flanked by slender LED headlights and hook-like intakes at the bottom corners.

The same hooked style is applied to the ribbed tail-lights and exhaust frames, beneath a wide rear window.

Measuring 4140mm long and 1740mm wide, the concept is on the smaller end of the crossover segment: the larger 4008 is 200mm longer, and even Opel's little Mokka is 140mm longer.

The Urban Crossover is also a good deal smaller than the SXC, which measured 4870mm end-to-end - 20mm longer than a BMW X5.
