Peugeot has lifted the lid on its latest future-styled concept, with the new SXC crossover concept debuting today ahead of its Shanghai unveiling.
Looking like a larger, five-door version of last year's HR1 concept, the SXC is the product of the new Shanghai-based Peugeot Style Studios of China. In honour of the new studio's work, the concept's name stands for 'Shanghai Cross Concept.'
The SXC follows in the footsteps of not only the HR1, but also the 5 by Peugeot Concept (entering production as the 508), and the earlier SR1 sports concept.
It's also the largest car Peugeot has developed, concept or otherwise. At 4870mm end-to-end and 2035mm wide, it's nearly 20mm longer and over 100mm wider than the BMW X5.
Power for the SXC concept comes from Peugeot Citroen PSA's Hybrid4 technology, which combines a 162kW turbocharged 1.6 litre petrol engine at the front wheels with a 70kW electric motor driving the rear wheels.
While only a concept, Peugeot says the SXC offers fuel consumption figures of 5.8 l/100km, and CO2 emissions are listed as 143g/km.
Peugeot has offered no word on the SXC's future, but with the 5 by 5 concept graduating to production status and the French carmaker being without a large SUV, a market debut could be in the SXC's cards.
