Peugeot’s Onyx super hybrid concept will be accompanied by a three-wheeled scooter offshoot - named the Onyx Concept Scooter - when it hits the stand at the Paris Motor Show later this month.
Featuring a design and colour scheme that closely mimics the recently revealed supercar, the Onyx Scooter also echoes its four-wheeled brethren’s hybrid driveline.
The scooter employs a 400cc petrol engine, combined with an electric motor to produce 45kW, offering a claimed top speed of 150km/h.
A plug-in lithium battery system allows 30km of pure electric range, with a total of 500km available using both power sources.
Riders can choose between ‘Sport’ and ‘Urban’ riding positions via a removable center ‘ClipBox’ storage unit.
Sport mode offers a sportsbike crouched feet-back riding position, while Urban mode is a traditional scooter upright feet-forward approach.
The Onyx Scooter is the fourth three-wheel hybrid scooter concept from the French manufacturer in recent years, following the HYmotion3 in 2008, HYbrid3 Evolution in 2009, and METROPOLIS concept in 2011.
This build-up of concepts hints at a future production three-wheeled model - a first from the French manufacturer’s ‘Scooter’ arm - with a hybrid drivetrain also likely for future production.
