Citroen's streamlined C-Sportlounge concept lives on in the recently-revealed DS5, but partner Peugeot is preparing to unveil its own take on sleek wagon styling: the HX1 Concept.

Heading to the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, the HX1 has seating for up to six occupants, thanks to a flexible modular 4+2 seating system.

Access to the five-metre long people-mover's oak and metal-accented interior is gained through front and rear-hinged reverse-opening scissor doors.

Interior features include a minibar and a coffee machine - as all good concepts should - and the additional pair of seats are courtesy of a fold-out system built into the back of the front seats.

On the outside, the HX1 bears Peugeot's new styling language, previewed by its latest run of concepts and the new 508 sedan and wagon - already on sale in Australia.

Power for the HX1 comes from Peugeot and Citroen's Hybrid4 diesel-electric system, pairing a 220kW 2.2 litre HDi diesel with an electric motor integrated into the rear axle.

The system gives the concept the benefit of all-wheel-drive, along with an all-electric driving range of 30 kilometres from one charge. In combined form, the Hybrid4 system lists fuel consumption figures of just 3.2 l/100km.

The HX1 Concept will make its global debut at Frankfurt, alongside the high-riding European-market Peugeot 508 RXH.
