Peugeot Australia has re-engined its 508 GT sedan and wagon with a new Euro 6 emissions-compliant 2.0 litre "Blue HDi 180" turbo diesel that extends the GT model's driving range, but at the cost of reduced power and torque.
Compared to the outgoing 2.2 litre HDi engine, peak power drops from 150kW to 133kW with torque chopped by 50Nm to 400Nm.
But fuel consumption undergoes a similarly significant drop from 5.7 l/100km to just 4.4 l/100km, giving the 508 GT sedan a maximum range of 1636km and the wagon a range of 1565km - enough to drive from Melbourne to Adelaide and back.
Average CO2 emissions also fall, with the 2.0 litre pumping out just 114 grams of CO2 per kilometre against the old 2.2's 140g/km figure.
