Peugeot has introduced its 5008 wagon this week, offering Australian buyers a dedicated seven-seat option in the company's growing line-up.

Launched internationally in 2009, the 5008 is built on the same PSA PF2 platform that underpins Peugeot's 308 range and the 3008 crossover SUV, along with Citroen's C4 Picasso.

With seating for seven, the 5008 is classed internationally as a compact people-mover, rivalling the Honda Odyssey in the market space below larger offerings like the Kia Grand Carnival and the Toyota Tarago.

Positioned alongside the 4007 - a midsized SUV based on the previous Mitsubishi Outlander - the 'new' 5008 will be offered in just one trim grade.

The two-car range will start at $36,990 for the Touring Active Petrol automatic, while the Touring Active Diesel auto will be priced at $40,490.
