Unlike the diesel-electric Hybrid4 system featured in other Peugeot and Citroen models, the 208 Hybrid FE pairs its electric motor with a 1.2 litre petrol engine.
Full details are still to come, although Peugeot says it is aiming for a fuel consumption figure in the neighbourhood of 2.0 l/100km, and carbon emissions are pegged at 49g/km.
Peugeot also promises a 0-100km/h time of eight seconds flat.
The Hybrid FE's impressive fuel estimate is thanks also to composite materials used in the concept's construction, cutting weight by a substantial 20 percent.
The hatch's drag coefficient has also been improved by 25 percent, Peugeot says, thanks again to unique body enhancements.
Aero improvements include deleting the side mirrors, replacing the door handles, closing up gaps, bolting on some sleeker wheels and completely redesigning the rear-end.
Watch for the Hybrid FE to debut at Frankfurt next month.
5008 And 3008 Updates
Peugeot's new family face is quickly making its way across the range, debuting on a number of new models - and now more than a few older offerings.
Revealed today, both family wagons wear new headlights, made slightly sharper than before and styled more in-line with the indented look of Peugeot's latest models.
The brand's new grille design also now dominates the face of both cars, marking a major upgrade to the 5008 in particular.
There's also brand-new bumper designs at both ends and refreshed tail-lights, along with key touch-ups in the cabin.
The updated 5008 is expected to hit Australia around March or April next year, followed by a mid-year local debut for the 3008.
