Peugeot has confirmed that its shapely new 3008 SUV will be arriving on Australian shores with an arrival date earmarked for the first quarter of 2017.
Although full details of the range are yet to be confirmed, the Australian-bound 3008 range will arrive with both a 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine as well as a 2.0 litre turbo diesel, both compliant with the latest Euro 6 emissions standards.
While full details remain unconfirmed, engine outputs are expected to be 121kW for the petrol engine, and 132kw for the diesel with both engines mated to a traditional six-speed automatic.
Inside, the 3008 range will feature the second generation of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit driver interface, placing instruments up high in the driver’s line of sight, and grouping controls for easy driver access.
Peugeot Australia General Manager, Kai Bruesewitz, hinted that the 3008 would be the brand’s biggest event of 2017, with a range of other new and updated models set to join the new medium SUV during the year.
“The launch of 3008 will coincide with a significant refocus and refresh of the brand and model line-up in Australia,” said Mr. Bruesewitz.
“The remainder of 2016 will be dedicated to preparing our business for the launch of two all-new models and a refresh to a further two model lines in 2017.”
“With its all-new platform and drivetrains, combined with its French design and engineering, we are extremely excited about the all-new 3008 and believe that this is the Peugeot SUV Australians have been waiting for.”
While the 3008 name isn’t new in Australia, the outgoing model, designed as a compact people mover, has not found favour with global buyers in the same way the new SUV is expected to.
Full details of pricing and availability will be announced closer to the launch of the new 3008 range, including the Australian availability of the sporting 3008 GT flagship which has been announced for Europe.
