PEUGEOT 208 GTI
Is this the long-rumoured 208 GTi? Released today, this Peugeot teaser image arrives without details, leaving fans to draw their own conclusions.
That a GTi version of the all-new 208 is on the way is no secret, with Peugeot boss Jean-Marc Gales speaking at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show of returning to the GTi's roots: "precision, allure, style, driver control and excellence".
Recent spy photos published by TMR show that Peugeot has been working on a new variant in the 208 range, but with a largely unchanged styling package, it remains unclear what the spied car will become.
As one TMR reader pointed out: "Even the 208 Allure 150 THP will get the dual exhaust tips and I'd bet the GTi will be showing much more of its muscles".
As the image above shows, if Peugeot is about to reveal the new 208 flagship, it will clearly come with its own unique styling and aerodynamics package.
Power for the new 208 GTi is expected to come from a down-rated version of the 147kW 1.6 litre turbo engine driving the Peugeot RCZ coupe - expect a Polo GTI-rivalling 120 to 130kW.
Reports out of Europe suggest a hotter "GTi Racing" could also be in the works, delivering the full 147kW.
