All examples of Peugeot’s powered-up and extra-special 208 GTi 30th Anniversary model, restricted to just 26 examples for Australia, have been sold.

The birthday edition, an homage to the original 1984 205 GTi, is priced from $35,990 and will be a little late for its birthday, with local units not expected to arrive until the first quarter of 2015.

Despite the sell-out performance, Peugeot’s Australian distributor, Sime Darby Motors, said today that hopeful buyers could still be in with a chance.

“Our dealers are still taking orders on the vehicle and we are hopeful that continued strong interest will enable us to secure further supply,” National Sales Manager, Trevor Palmer, said.

Entering with a $6000 premium over the regular 208 GTi hot hatch, the 30th Anniversary model boasts a number of tricks to commemorate the 205 GTi’s birthday.

A power boost from 147 to 155kW headlines the changes, but there’s also enhanced steering settings and a 10mm lower suspension package, along with 22 and 16mm wider tracks at the front and rear.

The package is rounded out with a stealth black finish to most of the garnishes, along with big 18-inch black wheels, a larger rear spoiler and the same red contrast to the rear that appeared on the recent Exalt and 308 R concepts.

If you’re keen to get into one of these specials and you haven’t already made yourself one of the lucky 26, you’d best get into your local Peugeot dealer and add your voice to the call for a bigger order.
