Here’s the first look at the McLaren 570GT by MSO (McLaren Special Operations) which debuts next week at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in northern California.

This is the first 570GT to get the ‘once-over’ from MSO.

Headlining the enhancements is the addition of an electro-chromic layer to the glass roof which uses a touch-sensitive headlining so the driver can choose between five levels of tint from virtually clear to almost dark.

The Pebble Beach display car is painted in ‘Elite Pearl White’ and other visual changes for the McLaren 570GT by MSO include Piano Black for the wheels, side skirts, front and rear ends, the door inserts and interior details.

And there are full length sill panels in Gloss Carbon Fibre.

Inside is ‘Saddle Tan’ leather with numerous Gloss Lacquer Carbon Fibre components, door inserts and centre tunnel sides in rich gloss lacquer and a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

Under the bonnet the McLaren 570GT by MSO’s 420kW/600Nm twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre engine gains a titanium exhaust system (30 per-cent lighter than stainless steel) with engineering sourced from the 675LT model to deliver a better soundtrack - one which changes as revs rise.

The exhaust heat shields - visible through the rear air ducts - feature a ‘golden titanium nitride tint’ which changes to a blue/purple hue during the heat cycle.

Driving the rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential transmission, the McLaren 570GT by MSO covers zero to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds.

With 570-litres of luggage space (150-litres up-front and 220-litres behind the seats in a leather-trimmed ‘Touring Deck’ which can be accessed via a glass hatch on the left-hand-side for RHD cars) McLaren says the 570GT is its most road-biased car so far.

So suspension calibration is correspondingly more modest (spring rates are 15 per-cent softer at the front and 10 per-cent softer at the rear) and even the electro-hydraulic steering is backed-off by two per-cent so less driver input is required at speed.

Sharing the same lightweight carbon-fibre chassis as the 570S Coupe (McLaren’s MonoCell II), the 570GT tips the scales at just 1350kgs so, despite that awesome performance, European combined-cycle fuel consumption averages only 10.7l/100kms.

“This year, closely following the reveal of the GT addition to the Sports Series family, we showcase the breadth of McLaren Special Operations personalization work, this time focusing on bespoke engineering design and components,” revealed McLaren MSO boss Paul Mackenzie ahead of his trip to Pebble Beach.

“With its Electro Chromic Roof especially, the McLaren 570Gt by MSO would be well suited to the needs of customers in sunnier and warmer climates.”

We suspect that may mean Abu Dhabi and Dubai as much as California and Florida.
