Porsche and McLaren are both reportedly evaluating new models inspired by the pretty Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake and Ferrari's FF.

German website Autobild reports that a Panamera shooting brake could appear in concept form at the Paris Show in late September, previewing the idea for the next-generation Panamera.

While the Panamera has plenty of room in the boot, the shooting brake idea would perhaps be more about looks than actual carrying ability.

In a separate report at GTSpirit, picking up the ball from Britain's AutoExpress, it has been suggested that McLaren is considering an assault on the Ferrari FF with a new MP4-12C spin-off.

Running the same mechanicals as its coupe and spider brethren, the load-lugging McLaren could present a few engineering challenges - given that the engine is where seats and luggage would sit in a shooting brake.

Some reports reckon that the MP4-12C shooting brake could debut as early as 2013 - a more than slightly ambitious schedule, considering the lack of usual evidence: spy photos, patent leaks and solid insider information.
