The Pacific Highway has again topped the NRMA’s annual Seeing Red On Roads survey, which saw nearly 12,000 people respond for 2014.

Road users were asked to ‘red flag’ a section of road in New South Wales or the Australian Capital Territory that they believed was the worst, from which a ‘top-ten’ list was compiled.

While the highway (incorporating the F3 / M1 Sydney - Newcastle Motorway) has greatly improved between Sydney and Port Macquarie in recent years, some areas north and south of Coffs Harbour (among others) are yet to be upgraded.

It was these areas that respondents singled out in the survey, saying the highway is congested with a poor road surface and not enough lanes.

The NRMA said it is clear that the initial deadline of 2016 to upgrade the Pacific Highway in its entirety would not be met, and that the Association would continue to pressure governments to meet the new deadline of 2020.
